Book Club: The Jungle - Upton Sinclair
I finally got around to reading this classic! For those that aren’t already aware, it’s a story of a struggling immigrant family in the 1900 Chicago Union Stockyards. Truly a gripping tale of the horrors that unskilled workers faced in those days, and an even more chilling account of what went on inside the dark confines of our nation’s meat packing plants. Then the whole wonderfully well written story turns into an eloquent surprise pitch for socialism. Well played, Mr. Sinclair. Well played.
Verdict: Absolutely worth a read (or reread) if you can stomach the depressing subject.
